Master programme InterMedia

Contents and focus of the degree programme:

The master’s programme imparts creative skills (development of creativity strategies), media skills (planning of the use of media, intermedia concepts), economic skills (design of marketing concepts), technical skills (synthesis, programming, usability) and project management skills. The acquisition of the ability to independent academic working, social skills (team leadership and group leadership) as well as psychological skills round off the programme. Students can specialise in the areas of corporate communications, computer graphics & virtual reality or arts & science. Students will benefit from international lecturers in the teaching and a versatile, customer-oriented education which meets the economic and technological requirements of the media sector. Graduates can work in the areas of art direction, creative direction, editing, scriptwriting, conception, media consultancy, communication consultancy, animation design, etc. The medium of instruction is German and English.

Definition of the field of studies

The discipline InterMedia deals with creative tasks in media production. Of special relevance are design of visual communication, design in open environments and design in synthetic, multi-dimensional environments.

Exams

The master's programme lasts four semesters and includes the following subjects: Focus project 1, project seminar, visual media studies (1st semester); Media project workshop (2 out of 5 must be chosen: video, photography, print, interactive media, computer animation), focus workshop, compulsory electives (2nd semester); focus project 2, design research, thesis seminar, focus seminar 2 (3rd semester); master’s thesis, Innovation as a market chance, focus workshop 2 (4th semester). In the framework of the master’s thesis students must work on a research question and carry out a practical assignment. The programme concludes with an oral master’s examination.

Entrance examinations

The requirement for admission to this programme is the general university entrance qualification or a university entrance qualification exam or a completed subject-related apprenticeship plus additional examinations or a subject-related German university of applied sciences entrance qualification plus additional examinations; completed degree programme preferably in a design field or in the field of new media.
