Definition of the field of studies

The instrumental studies programme “Harp” provides comprehensive training and perfection in musical and interpretative capabilities as well as the technical skills to perform on the instrument harp, all of which are required for a professional musical career.

The instrumental study programme "Harp" consists of four compulsory subjects: the central artistic subject, coaching; orchestra and chamber music. In the master’s programme a specialisation subject can be chosen (from solo literature, chamber music, improvisation and composition, early music and new music). A master’s thesis must also be written. Students can choose between an academic and an artistic master’s thesis. The artistic part of the master’s examination consists of an internal exam and a public concert of approximately one hour’s duration. Students need a pass grade on a compulsory practical training consisting of three stage performances.

Entrance examinations

If a bachelor programme was studied at the Mozarteum University Salzburg an entrance examination is not necessary. Applicants who studied at another university have to undergo an examination of their qualifications. A programme must be presented which must include works of a high degree of difficulty from various stylistic epochs.
