Master programme Tuba

Contents and focus of the degree programme:

The master programme Tuba serves the consolidation of individual interests and abilities through specialising studies in the central artistic subject tuba. Special artistic preferences and academic interests are further developed. The aims of the instrumental courses at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg are for students to achieve artistic maturity and independence, the ability to reflect critically and evaluate their own abilities, to achieve artistic and scientific skills so as to be able to analyse musical works of art from all epochs, the ability to carry out a profession, the ability to fulfil artistic, educational and organisational tasks with a cultural dimension. They will be qualified to work as soloists, freelance artists, chamber musicians, orchestra musicians, concertmasters, principals, tuttists in chamber, opera and symphonic orchestras) and répétiteurs.

Definition of the field of studies

The instrumental studies programme “Tuba” provides comprehensive training and perfection in musical and interpretative capabilities as well as the technical skills to perform on the relevant instrument (tuba), all of which are required for a professional musical career. Through involvement with the artistic and intellectual aspects of music universal and practice-based competency will be achieved.

Exams

In the master programme compulsory subjects in the fields of tuba (central artistic subject), coaching, orchestra – Bläserphilharmonie and chamber music – Bläserphilharmonie must be studied. Elective subjects can be chosen from the fields of artistic practice, applied theory, music, literature and arts studies or music education. Each student has to do a compulsory practical training in the form of three stage appearances in the CAS or in the subject of concentration. During the course an artistic or a scientific master thesis must be written. The degree programme concludes with a master examination consisting of an internal exam and a public concert.
