In the master programme four compulsory courses in the central artistic subject bass tuba must be studied. Other compulsory subjects are chamber music, coaching and orchestra. Elective subjects are aural training, women in music and gender studies, orchestra studies, mental training, breathing and movement training and Alexander technique, historical performance practice, study of notation, cultural work and project planning, public relations and journalism, and diploma seminar. One of the following focuses must be chosen: studio of early music, studio of new music, chamber music or collateral musicology. It is recommended to write an artistic master thesis. Alternatively an academic master thesis can be written. The degree programme concludes with a master examination before a committee in the central artistic subject.
Students who have not studied a bachelor programme in bass tuba in at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz have to audition.
