The degree programme is divided into five platforms. These are: 1. analogue and digital production, 2. supporting structures, materials, technology, 3. ecology, sustainability and cultural heritage, 4. history, theory, critique, and 5. geography, landscapes and towns. The students can choose one of these as thematic and specialisation area. Other modules are project, planning seminar and elective subjects. At least one of these electives should be studied outside the department. The degree programme concludes with a master's thesis and the defence of this thesis in the form of an oral examination.
Entrance examinations take place every year before the beginning of the academic year. They consist of the following elements: submission of a portfolio and a letter of motivation, two letters of recommendation and an interview. For students who have completed a bachelor‘s degree in architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts the entrance examination only consists of an interview. Moreover, a three-month work placement is recommended before the beginning of the master‘s programme.
