Master programme Media Informatics

Contents and focus of the degree programme:

The degree programme in media informatics prepares students for positions at the interface between humans, media and information. The education imparts sound knowledge and skills in informatics. The focus is on the production, processing and presentation of digital media. The adjustment of the media data for simple and easily understandable use by the users in order to facilitate the highest possible degree of information gain (e.g. in e-learning) plays an important part. Moreover, skills in the areas of virtual reality / pervasive computing and human-machine communication are developed. Students can specialise either in the field of interconnected systems or in multimedia information systems. They can apply the knowledge they gained in a broad spectrum of business and research-oriented fields of application.

Definition of the field of studies

Media informatics deals with the basics, technology and applications of systematic and automated information processing. It provides methods and tools to master complex systems in natural sciences, technology and other areas of human life and employs both mathematical-formal and engineering working methods.

Exams

In addition to the compulsory modules on basics and interdisciplinary application of informatics this master’s programme also offers alternative compulsory module groups in advanced e-learning technologies, film and animation on the basis of digital media, and game design. In order to guarantee a high supervisory quality in this degree programme, which is geared to project-based learning, more experienced colleagues are increasingly involved and guidance is also offered online (e.g. in forums).
