Master programme Industrial Management and Business Administration (E)

Contents and focus of the degree programme:

This master’s programme is mainly dedicated to the economic aspects of petroleum and natural gas production. The management of this complex field requires interdisciplinary special knowledge, broad background knowledge about different processes of the discipline and a high degree of social skills. A focus is on methods and theories in economic sciences and business. Students can choose one focus from the areas of “Sustainability Management“, “Facility Management“, “Knowledge Management” or “Process and Quality Management”. Graduates will be able assume leadership positions on all levels in the petroleum industry but also in the energy business, in special foundation construction and in consulting companies and also in research and development. Many graduates also manage their own business as suppliers in the petroleum business. The medium of instruction is German and English.

Definition of the field of studies

The Industrial Management and Business Administration programme in Austria concentrates on the use of petroleum and natural gas. Students will deal with the identification of deposits, the planning of plants, processes in drilling, extraction and storage as well as with the socio-economic and ecological consequences and framework conditions. The programme will qualify graduates for working in the operative area of the Austrian and international petroleum industry.

Exams

The basic education in this programme includes the modules of “Industrial Management and Business Administration” and “Petroleum Business”. The first one covers advanced economic basics and methods e.g. in finance, marketing and personnel and project management. The latter one covers legal and economic particularities of the petroleum market. In the course of the study programme students have to do an industrial internship of at least twenty working days and write a master’s thesis.
