Bachelor programme Education

Contents and focus of the degree programme:

The bachelor programme “education” teaches scientific problem resolution skills, which are developed in the application and research fields. Another central aspect is the imparting of theoretical and practice-oriented concepts. The focus is on academic working in the social and education area, skills qualifying for further studies and an education preparing for a future occupation. Graduates will be qualified for management and leadership positions in educational and social affairs institutions, organisations and associations.

Definition of the field of studies

The subject “education” deals with the structures and functions of education. The focus is on theoretical and methodological problems for an analysis of educational processes and the understanding of the reality of education.

Exams

In the bachelor programme the compulsory modules theory of education (education-related academic working, constitution problems in education studies, education and anthropology), education, society and the individual (education and historicity, education and politics, the individual and development) and methodology and methods of education studies (philosophical methods in education studies, empirical research methods in education studies I and II) must be studied. Moreover, focal subjects from the fields of the changing face of education, learning and teaching, inclusive education for people with special educational needs, and education, guidance and development for all ages must be chosen. One elective module can be chosen from educational theory or another field of studies. The first bachelor thesis will be written in the framework of a research placement; the second bachelor thesis will be written in one of the focal subjects or compulsory modules in a theory-based way. A study period at a university abroad is recommended.
