Bachelor programme Ancient History and Classical Studies

Contents and focus of the degree programme:

In the “Ancient History” part the bachelor programme Ancient History and Classical Studies tries to reveal the big guiding principles of the complex which cannot be determined authoritatively as regards area and time and which is generally known as “antiquity”. This structure includes the early advanced civilisations, the Bronze Age cultures of the Aegean and of Ancient Italy and the Greek and Roman antiquity until the 6th century AD; as far as area is concerned it also includes the whole ecumene from ancient China to Central and South America and as regards time it also includes prospects both to prehistory and to the history of the Middle Ages, newer and latest history, with special emphasis on the legacy of the antiquity. Classical Studies are mainly devoted to the material legacy of this antiquity; the primary concern of them is to document the realities of the human living environment and the basic needs of life and to prepare them in a way that it can be tried to make the driving forces for the historical events transparent based on these general requirements of human action.
