Contents and focus of the degree programme:

In the course of the degree programme students gain theoretical and practical skills in the English language and in various – subject-specific and generally occupation-relevant – subject areas, and thus the possibility to work in a great number of established and alternative occupational fields after their graduation. These occupational fields all have different qualification profiles but they all require, apart from the ability to use language (both the mother tongue and the foreign language) consciously and in a sophisticated way, great cultural and scientific-analytical skills. The medium of instruction is English.

Definition of the field of studies

The aim of the degree programme in English and American Studies is to teach excellent skills in the active use of the English language.

Exams

The bachelor's programme in English and American Studies consists of the following four compulsory subjects: Induction and orientation period: “Language”; “Linguistics”, “Literature” and “Culture”; and “Focus on” through elective subjects. All students of English and American Studies are strongly recommended to spend part of their degree programme (at least one semester) at a university in an English-speaking country. At the end of the bachelor's programme students have to write a bachelor's thesis in English.
