Contents and focus of the degree programme:

The aims of the bachelor's programme are both an introduction into academic working and the imparting of knowledge and skills (especially related to the language, literature and culture of the English-speaking world) which are necessary for culture-, communication- and media-related occupations. The degree programme teaches on one hand scientific theories and methods and on the other hand the ability to use these in professional life. The degree programme consists of four parts: language training, linguistics, literature studies (including media studies) and cultural studies. The contents relate both to the British and US culture area. The medium of instruction is English.

Definition of the field of studies

The aim of the degree programme English and American Studies is to teach excellent skills in the active use of the English language.

Exams

The first, two-semester, part of the degree programme consists of introductory courses in language, literature and culture, and elective subjects. The second, four-semester, part of the degree programme deals with the modules language, literature, linguistics and British and American culture and elective subjects. Students are strongly recommended to spend part of their studies in an English-speaking country, using the mobility programmes of the university. The second academic year is recommended for this. The degree programme concludes with an examination and a bachelor thesis written in English.
