Das Magisterstudium Erdwissenschaften dient der fachlichen Vertiefung, der im Bakkalaureatsstudium erworbenen Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten wie etwa Erfassung, Analyse und Interpretation von erdwissenschaftlichen Prozessen mit ihren geochemischen, mineralogisch-kristallographischen, petrologischen, geologischen und paläontologischen Aspekten und ihren Wechselwirkungen mit Umwelt und Technik. Gleichzeitig ermöglicht das Studium eine berufliche Spezialisierung aus einem breiten Spektrum erdwissenschaftlicher Disziplinen. Das Magisterstudium Erdwissenschaften bietet folgende Ausbildungsschwerpunkte, wobei diese auf den fachverwandten Schwerpunktfächern des Bakkalaureatsstudiums aufbauen: Mineralogie-Kristallographie, Material- und Rohstoffforschung; Petrologie, Ressourcen und Umwelt; Geochemie; Geologie; Technische Geologie sowie Paläontologie.

Definition of the field of studies

The discipline Geosciences includes different scientific sub-areas, all dealing with the system earth, and serves to teach basic knowledge in mineralogy, petrology, geology and palaeontology.

Exams

The master’s programme requires a completed bachelor degree. Courses and examinations may also be held in English, thus proficiency written and spoken English (written and spoken) is required. A subject-relevant work placement of at least three weeks is recommended. In the master’s programme the examinations about the compulsory and elective subjects of the chosen specialisation will be taken in the form of examinations about individual courses. After a pass grade on all these examinations and a pass grade on the master’s thesis students will be admitted to the final examination before an examination committee.
