Contents and focus of the degree programme:

The teacher training programme “Movement and Sports” serves the technical, didactical, educational and academic training for a future teaching job. Basic knowledge in the subject-related topics of sports studies, the subject-specific research methods, methodological skills and also critical assessment of sports as a cultural phenomenon is taught. The aim is to train basics of fitness and coordination and health-oriented and balancing movements and to differentiate and improve the individual achievement potential. By means of a sound basic academic education graduates are to be able to prove themselves in a flexible and highly competent way in their occupational fields. Initiative of one’s own, self-organisation, a critical awareness, cooperation and the ability to work in a team as well as motivation are particularly stimulated in the course. Here the same rule applies as for all teacher training programmes, i.e. that the study programme must be combined with studies of another teaching subject.

Definition of the field of studies

The teacher training programme “Movement and Sports” deals with sports studies in terms of sports education in schools. It enables graduates to teach the school subject “sports” at secondary schools of general education and vocational secondary schools in a highly competent way.

Exams

The teacher training programme “Movement and Sports” at the University of Innsbruck lasts nine semesters and is divided into two stages. These consist of a general and two subject-specific parts. The first degree examination is an examination about the courses studied and concludes the first stage of the programme. The second degree examination consists of two parts, it concludes the second stage of the programme and consists of subject-specific examinations and the submission of a thesis.

Entrance examinations

Prospective students have to pass a supplementary examination to prove their physical and motor ability. Admission procedure
