Contents and focus of the degree programme:

The teacher training programme “Movement and Sports” at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Salzburg serves the didactical, practical and the educational and academic training for a future teaching job. The degree programme pursues interdisciplinary educational goals in the field of sports studies and the development of academic ways of thinking. The acquired knowledge enables students to link the didactical and methodological skills with multifaceted skills in movement and school practice, which is very important for their future field of occupation. Here the same rule applies as for all teacher training programmes, i.e. that the study programme must be combined with studies of another teaching subject.

Definition of the field of studies

The teacher training programme “Movement and Sports” deals with sports studies in terms of sports education in schools. It enables graduates to teach the school subject “sports” at secondary schools of general education and vocational secondary schools in a highly competent way.

Exams

The degree programme for the school subject physical education is divided into two stages and consists of courses in the subjects of “movement and sports”, general education studies and elective subjects. The purpose of the first stage of the programme is to introduce students to the basics of the degree programme. It lasts four semesters. The second stage of the programme serves the consolidation and enhancement of the academic training for a future teaching job. It lasts five semesters. In the course of the programme two degree examinations must be passed. The degree programme concludes with a thesis. Students have to choose the topic for this thesis from one of the examination subjects stipulated in the curriculum. Students are recommended to do a work placement abroad.

Entrance examinations

Prospective students have to pass a supplementary examination to prove their physical and motor ability.
