Contents and focus of the degree programme:

The teacher training programme provides academic preparation for the manifold activities of teachers at higher secondary schools. A focus is on the recognition of the historical dimensions of linguistic and aesthetical phenomena. Students will acquire the following skills: excellent command of the English language, ability for comprehensive oral and written text production, perfection in the target group-oriented use of the language, reflexion and use of English, sound, broad and exact knowledge of linguistic forms (orthography, grammar, style, etc.) of a main variety of the English language and at least passive skills in other varieties, language awareness and the ability to translate and to evaluate translations. The teacher training programme must be combined with another teaching subject. The medium of instruction is English.

Definition of the field of studies

The aim of the teacher training programme in English is academic pre-vocational education for teaching at higher secondary schools. This includes subject-specific, didactical and pedagogical knowledge and a teaching internship.

Exams

The degree programme consists of the following modules: language skills, linguistics, literature studies, cultural and regional studies and didactics. Moreover, students have to do a teaching internship. The elective subjects which can be chosen freely by the students constitute a module of their own. In addition to the subject-specific education there are additional modules for educational and academic pre-professional education. A study period abroad is strongly recommended. Students have to write their bachelor thesis in English.
