Master programme Web Sciences

Content and focus of the degree programme:

The master’s programme in Web Sciences imparts knowledge in fields relevant to the web such as technology, business, law, society, art and culture. Students will acquire skills in this subject but also, by means of an interdisciplinary view on the subject, understand methods of disciplines outside their subject and develop resolution approaches on a scientific and creative level. They will gain knowledge in the areas of web art and basics of web design as well as legal, social sciences-related, technical and economic web basics. Students will be familiarised with interdisciplinary working methods. They will receive an introduction to project studies in web sciences as well as to current research contents of web sciences. The degree programme consists of the branches of studies Social Web, Web Art & Design, Web Business & Economy, Web Engineering as well as Web and Law. Students will develop general skills such as the ability to work in a team, social skills and how to think and act in a multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary way.

Definition of the field of studies

The discipline Web Sciences deals with the application of digital and audio-visual web-based media. In this context the web phenomenon is understood as an intercultural and socio-technological system. The programme’s purpose and methods revolve around the use of the web.

Exams

The master’s programme in Web Sciences includes the compulsory subjects Propedeutics in web sciences, Basics of web sciences as well as Web sciences. The elective subjects offer a choice between the modules Social Web, Web Art & Design, Web Business & Economy, Web Engineering as well as Web and Law. The programme also includes courses which the students can choose freely. To complete the programme students have to write a master’s thesis.
