The study programme Bass Tuba enables students to acquire the ability to express themselves independently and at a high artistic level in their interpretation of musical works from diverse style periods. Through the combination of specialised musical knowledge and technical ability as well as the creative involvement of their own artistic personality in orchestral and chamber music performances graduates are able to establish themselves successfully in professional careers (in orchestras, chamber music and solo settings) and they will be prepared in an ideal way for playing concerts. Teachers of international renown guarantee an education oriented on the highest level of artistic performance.
Orchesterinstrument
The instrumental studies programme “Bass Tuba” provides comprehensive training and perfection in musical and interpretative capabilities as well as the technical skills to perform on the relevant instrument (bass tuba), all of which are required for a professional musical career. Through involvement with the artistic and intellectual aspects of music universal and practice-based competency will be achieved.
In the bachelor programme eight compulsory courses from the central artistic subject bass tuba must be studied. Other compulsory subjects are aural training, compositional technique, study of musical form, history of music, chamber music, choir, piano practice, coaching, orchestra, fundamentals of scientific research and fundamentals of source-oriented scientific research. Elective subjects are piano practice addition, applied acoustics and study of musical instruments, orchestral studies, mental training, breathing and movement training and Alexander technique. One of the following focuses must be chosen: studio of early music, studio of new music, chamber music or collateral musicology. An artistic bachelor thesis in the artistic focus subject and an academic bachelor thesis must be written. The degree programme concludes with a final examination before a committee in the central artistic subject.
Prospective students have to prove their artistic aptitude. Knowledge of German is also required.
