Bachelor programme Architecture

Content and focus of the degree programme:

The bachelor programme enables students to develop hypotheses in the form of planning concepts and to illustrate these in the planning, using analogue and digital, two- and three-dimensional means of presentation. Moreover students will gain basic knowledge regarding materials and constructions in architecture and they will know about the technical basics and relationships in the dealing with these. They will also know the basic building physics and technological correlations between materials, construction and energy in the context of a building.

Definition of the field of studies

The core skills of architecture are planning, construction and design. Tasks include detailed planning, support structure planning and object planning, urban development, landscape design and spatial planning as well as the design of virtual spaces, always taking into account artistic, technical, ecological and social aspects.


The degree programme consists of two parts. The following modules are the core areas of the degree programme: 1. history of architecture, theory of architecture, arts and culture, 2. core competence Architecture Planning, 3. construction, technology, materials and 4. architectural presentation and art practices. Other modules are elective courses and excursions. Elective courses serve to set individual priorities and further development of the students and can be chosen freely from all courses on offer. The two excursions provide an opportunity to look into the current developments in the building culture and the cultural history legacy in urban planning and architecture during the bachelor programme. They can be carried out in Austria or abroad. The bachelor thesis consists of the courses Planning 4 and Planning of specialised topics.
