Definition of the field of studies

The core skills of architecture are planning, construction and design. Tasks include detailed planning, support structure planning and object planning, urban development, landscape design and spatial planning as well as the design of virtual spaces, always taking into account artistic, technical, ecological and social aspects.

The degree programme is divided into five platforms. These are: 1. analogue and digital production, 2. supporting structures, materials, technology, 3. ecology, sustainability and cultural heritage, 4. history, theory, critique, and 5. geography, landscapes and towns. The students can choose one of these as thematic and specialisation area. Other modules are project, planning seminar and elective subjects. At least one of these electives should be studied outside the department. The degree programme concludes with a master's thesis and the defence of this thesis in the form of an oral examination.

Entrance examinations

They consist of the following elements: submission of a portfolio and a letter of motivation, two letters of recommendation and an interview. For students who have completed a bachelor‘s degree in architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts the entrance examination only consists of an interview. Moreover, a three-month work placement is recommended before the beginning of the master‘s programme.
