Master programme Information Management

Content and focus of the degree programme:

The master’s programme in Information Management imparts both specialist knowledge in business administration and expertise in information technology. Graduates will be able to manage computer-aided information systems in companies and in inter-company networks from both the point of view of business administration and that of information technology. During their studies students will acquire the theoretical basics and also gain a critical reflexion of the application of the knowledge in practice. The degree programme offers a broadening of the business administration focus and a specialisation in informatics and informatics management. The students will be enabled to develop information technology solutions from the perspective of business administration and to implement them in practice. Their skills in the area of system security and network management will enable them to design, introduce, maintain and develop corporate information systems and inter-company information networks. The students will also be able to develop software applications and manage the interface between business administration applications and system technology.

Definition of the field of studies

The discipline of information management deals with the management of corporate information as well as with modern information and communication systems. It covers both business administration knowledge and basics of informatics and software development.


The master's programme in Information Management consists of the subjects of business administration, advanced informatics, practical software training and advanced information management. The degree course also includes a subject-relevant compulsory internship in a company in Austria or abroad, in public administration or in a non-profit organisation or a non-university research institute in order to apply their knowledge and skills in practice. Moreover, students have to study free electives and write a master’s thesis.
