Content and focus of the degree programme:

The master programme Ancient History and Classical Studies offers students an advancement of the basic and orientation knowledge which they already gained, insights into the methods and theoretical basics of the subject Ancient History and Classical Studies for a critical reflexion of the knowledge to be gained, interpretation, analysis and classification of the contents of historiographical, epigraphic and numismatic sources in the academic discourse. Special emphasis is put on the expansion of the general subject area of the Roman and Greek culture area beyond the European and Middle East to the China of the antiquity and South America. The field of studies Ancient History and Classical Studies goes into more depth regarding the situation of women in the antiquity and the judgement of the development of the world religions and dogmatic philosophies of life. By applying the principles of comparative historical sciences explanations can be suggested for phenomena such as xenophobia, clichés about peoples and forms of government.
