The master’s programme in Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedical Sciences in Graz is an interdisciplinary one and combines biology, medicine and chemistry. The educational focus is on medical biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, structural biology and enzymology. Theoretical studies are supplemented by expanded practical training courses. This enables students to work autonomously on scientific questions in different fields of molecular biosciences. This sound education prepares graduates for occupations both in basic and in applied research, especially in the medical and pharmaceutical field.

Definition of the field of studies

The degree programme Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedical Sciences deals with different questions of molecular biology. The interdisciplinary subject combines contents of biology, medicine and chemistry.

Exams

In the master’s programme “Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedical Sciences” examinations in the compulsory subjects “molecular biology”, “cell biology”, “biochemical analytics” and subjects from the catalogue of elective subjects must be passed. Three elective blocks, which are organised in modules, are available to students; these are “module molecular biomedicine”, “module cell biology” and “module enzymology and structural biology”. The degree programme concludes with an examination before a committee and a master’s thesis. Since the English language is vital for success in the job a study period abroad is recommended.
