The aim of the degree programme “Biology and Environmental Studies” at the University of Vienna is to provide subject-specific, didactic and pedagogical professional education including a teaching internship for teaching the specific school subject at higher secondary schools. The subject-specific education is to impart theoretical, teaching-relevant basic knowledge with a focus on general biology, botany, ecology, zoology, chemistry, physics, anthropology and didactics. The general pedagogical knowledge prepares graduates perfectly for a future teaching job; this is facilitated by a teaching internship during their studies.
The teacher training programme “Biology and Environmental Studies” conveys both a broad scientific knowledge base in the teaching subject Biology and Environmental Studies and the didactic skills that are necessary for a teaching job.
The degree programme is organised in the form of modules. All courses are offered in the form of lectures, conversatories, seminars, excursions and practical courses. This enables students to get a sound theoretical and practical education. To complete the degree programme successfully a bachelor thesis must be written.
